Default My 2000 S Type 4.0 Rolled Past the 200K mark!

My pride and joy finally rolled past the 200,000 mile mark this morning.

My Jaguar is still looking sharp and running strong! (and thanks goblue90 for a great deal on those sharp Jaguar Rims)

I owe a great deal of thanks and gratitude to this great forum and fellow members for sharing the knowledge we all attained through our relentless work, testing and tweaking to keep our vehicles going!

Now, the quest for 300,000 miles begins!!!

Way to go abonano! Proof the "S" is a 200k mile + car. Were you first owner? What oil change intervals did she recieve? My 03 STR is rounding 135k miles. Motor and rear are sound, but at this moment having a trans. rebuild.

bfsgross - No, I'm the second owner - when I took ownership the car I had the P1388 code - thanks to Brutal I was able to get the VVT passage clear with the dino oil/trans fluid combo trick - I now change the oil/filter every 10K miles - I use Mobil 1 EP synthetic (either 5W20 or 5W30 depending on season) and 1K before changing the oil I drain 1qt of oil and get 1qt of ATF in the crankcase - it's costly but it gets the job done.

Motor and rear are all original - except for the tensioners, guides and chains in the motor of course - I believe "version 3". Trans was rebuilt less than 10K miles ago... Thanks!

Thanks everyone! I treated my Jag to a newer set of halogen headlamp assemblies w/ the upgraded headlamp adjusters purchased off of ebay - what a difference! Brutal's headlamp fix lasted long but it was such a nice day - just decided to get those headlamps on as they were taking space in the storage shed and I finally got around to installing a replacement valiance panel (purchased from another member on the forum) I reinforced the corners with aluminum patch panels (weak spots) riveted them into place and installed as well...

That's so funny Rick - I was going to snap a pic of the work I did to the valiance panel before installing. I didn't - then after getting the Jag up on the ramps I went under and smacked my head on the frame. (score 1 for Jaguar - 0 for me) - I will snap some pics of the finished product when I get back under the Jag.

I attached a pic explaining the work performed to repair the broken section of the valiance panel.

For anyone needing assistance if they decide to install a sourced valiance panel (screws, bolts, fasteners) PM me - I kept notes...

200K miles sounds a big number anyway but when it's taken as the equivalent to EIGHT times round the World, it's an enormous driving distance.

How many miles before you changed out the timing chain?

The chains are very robust so I'd guess 150K if at all. It's the 4.0's tensioners (and guides while in there I expect) you really really need to change ASAP.

OEM tensioners and guides were changed out to 2nd gen at 80K miles as they were exhibiting the "rattle" sound at start up by the original owner. He said they were in bad shape considering and the guides literally broke apart upon removal from the engine. Tensioners were literally toast as well.

I changed everything (Primary & Secondary chains, all tensioners and guides) out at 160K miles as the 2nd gen tensioners were showing signs of imminent failure.

Installed latest timing kit at the time (3rd gen)...
