My 2001 S-type 4.0 is jerking into gear!

My 2001 S-type 4.0 jauger goes in to gear with a slight jerk from time to time. I had a light to come on about a month ago that said gear box failing, it stayed on about ten mins then when off. The jaguar dealer told us the transmission is seal for life. not sure if this could be the trans. my key can also be taken out the ignition in drive. not sure if this is related to the gear/trans issue.

See if any of your symptoms are similar to a phenomenon known as the lurch. Then report back please. Is this a newish car to you, just started happening...?

i have heard of this problem before, and it seems that some owners find that if you put the car into 'sport' mode for a couple of hundred miles, it sort of cures the problem for a while. i have had this problem myself in the past and putting it into sport mode did cure it. but i'm not sure if this is permament fix.

i'm also experiencing a similar problem, but it seems that i get the 'jerk' or 'thud' when i'm at a standstill and i engage into 'drive'. the jerk or thud, seems more harsh when i engage reverse.

i've heard that changing the gearbox oil can resolve this. anyone tried this?
