Default My Exhaust/ Any ideas?

Here are some pics of my exhaust, figured i'd take them while the car was on the lift. Can anyone tell what the original owner did to the exhaust from the pics? The guy at the Tire place said that he took the mufflers off and added resonators, and whoever did the mod did a "real good job". Seeing as I dont have any pics of a stock STR's exhaust from underneath, I dont have anything to compare it to. What I can say is that it sounds pretty nasty. Just wondering if anyone has experience with this, and had any opinions.

Hey Im relatively new to the Jag forums, I'm also from the Boston area as well. I have an 03 Jag STR in the Racing green, Ive had it for 5 months and I love it!

Im looking to upgrade my exhaust as well to get a better growl out of the kitty.. haha
Anyways, if you would like to meet up, you could take a look at my exhaust because it is stock. I am however looking to put in a stainless x pipe instead of the center resonator in hopes of acheiving a more aggressive sound with out fiddling to much with the system.

Im also thinking about powdercoating my Zeus Rims black to match the factory black trim, should look pretty slick!

everything is stock except the mufflers, looks like they cut off the old mufflers and used the existing pipe from the muffler back, then welded on the new resonator/mufflers and the tips. The stock mufflers are very large and kind of triangular shaped, they fill up the area behind the bumper on the sides of the trunk. This is a great way to have a 'custom' aftermarket exhaust without spending the $1k the various suppliers like to charge for the bolt-on new muffler/tip sets. If you want it even louder replace the center resonators with an x-pipe, however I will warn you the sound will most likely be very different from what you have now and not as smooth under hard accleration.

jgallant - There are tons of good exhaust posts here you can search from for ideas.

Bull27,

Do you have more pics of the underside by any chance? I'd love to see them if so.

Bull, as for the mechanical aspect of the system, the welds appear to be good. As for the parts installed, well, I am sure it sounds like a bumble bee. Not the sound that I would want on my car. I bet that car also performs great at higher RPMs but just doesn't seem to have much get up and go off the line.

What are you looking to get out of the exhaust (more top end, more low end, quiet rumble, etc)? That will dictate what you can get away with and what you can't. You tell me what you are after and we can figure out the parts from there.

Here is a video I took with my Blackberry, poor sound, poor image, poor everything but you can get the idea. I personally think it sounds better in person, but the only thing I would really change is to make it quiter.....i cant see that happening so probably leave it as is. Not sure it resembles a bumble bee, it really is loud.

jgallant: Good to have a fellow Bostonian here

JaguarEvan: Thanks for the heads up

Jag V8: I dont have any other pics, but I will take some for you when I get me tires replaced next week, are you looking for anything in particular? YES JOsworth, NEW TIRES!!!! ha ha, that could be a contributing factor to my premature DSC huh.... Jesus didnt realize they were so bad. Lookin at the Pirelli PZero Nero M&S and possibly the Bridgestone Potenza PP AT or M&S, I forget how they designate their performance all seasons.

I've never seen the underside of another STR and pics would give me an idea of what to expect. I've very limited room so can only get my car a short distance off the ground, which makes things awkward. (And I live on a fairly narrow busy road so can't work there.)

Bull, if you are wanting to quiet that down, check into some single in/single out Flowmaster 40 series mufflers. That should quiet it down some. Should also keep the rumble that you currently have. If you are wanting more of a step down in the volume, then look at the 50 series mufflers. The mufflers for your application can probably be had for around $100 a side. Then you have the install costs.

I was just picturing the exhaust sounding like a bumblebee with how the resonators were on there. But, that sounds pretty good to me. But then, hard to judge the volume of the exhaust in a recording. Hopefully what I told you here can lead you towards what you are after.

Im not sure what a bumblebee sounds like compared to a STR exhaust? I will admit mine sounded poppy at first which you can tell from the videos below right after it was installed, but by now its sounds pretty damn mean.

JAGV8: Here are some pics I took today when the tires were being installed, seeing as alot of the underside is covered with plastic there is only so many things to take pics of. Dont know if these will help or not?

I would love to know where they put the front lift points w/o bending anything. I've looked and it seems that eveywhere you want to put a jack there is some sort of cover.

There is actually an arrow on your side skirt pointing to the spot to use in the front.
