I would suggest, they have copied/imaged their disc and now want to recoup some of the exorbitant price back. So if they're happy their copy is working they sell the original. No-one can complain if you sell a genuine disc on ebay.
My copy does work properly, but I'm keeping hold of my original, it cost too much to lose if the copy stopped working.

Default Re New Nav disc eBay

I have not received it yet. It looks original to me, if not Paypal will just refund for me. Here is the eBay link.

Maybe I just got lucky.

Happy Motoring

That's look perfect to me Keith, as you say they claim it's genuine and I think it probably is, which means you should be just fine!

Tbird, did you use the imgburn software and set it to book type? If so, I'd just try a different brand of dvd, I just used a cheapo brand I'd never heard off before - Mirror DVD+R 8.5Gb - http://www.mirrorproducts.com/

Well you mentioned something that's interesting. I have been using DL (Dual Layer) DVD's. So you are used a standard single layer DVD+R disc? Maybe I should drop back and try that??

Yes it loads and reads fine so I know it's set to DVD-ROM. Otherwise I would have another coaster to add to my collection!! I have used Imgburn as well as NERO.

No Tbird, I'm using DL discs, I'd still recommend you try a different brand of disc.

Default As a follow up

My 2009-2010 disc was indeed an OEM original and works flawlessly. Not bad for $125 delivered! I love eBay.

Default Has the newest DVD worked in the older units ???

I'm pulling this thread back up because I am curious about the outcome not of the copying but just of the usage of this very late version of the NAV DVD in earlier cars.

Is this supposed to work in say my car a 2005 S-type? Many posters on this thread have XJRs.

Tbird6 had trouble with route calculation. If it were due to a media issue you'd get an error while it was loading. It's very unlikely that the media would load without a hitch and still have a part of the program or data that's corrupt. There are integrity checksum calculations contained in the recorded data.

So I'm wondering if there's more to be done to an earlier style NAV unit (Denso not the Alpine) in order for it to be able utilize the latest disk. Perhaps a firmware update is required first or is that self contained on the new DVD as well?

I looked at a lot of threads today and I think one of them mentioned something about a firmware update process??? I could be wrong.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks

BOb S.

My disc says S-type is covered.
Routing can still be eccentric shall we say...
Firmware update included on disc, allows programming on the move.
My copy is still working perfectly, while the original sits in it's box at home.

Thanks for replying.

Eccentric???

As I recall you weren't having the issues that Tbird6 was or were issues the eccentricty of which you are refering to?

I haven't even begun to learn the version I have now as it's from 2002-2003 so I figured why bother.

Bit of a crossed wire on my part, I've taken part in several Jag satnav threads on different forums.
Quite a few of us in the UK have experienced some strange route planning that most certainly was not the quickest route, it can prefer major highways even when lesser roads offer a quicker journey. Several of us have compared it to a Tomtom, which IMHO is far superior.
Tbird's issue was copying the disc, as I said I've had no such trouble.

No I never got my copy to work fully. It does load and I can see the maps and it does follow the car on the screen. I can't enter any destinations nor change the area of the country. I got a new Nav-Tech disc and it now works perfect. Just too much money for an update disc at $200!!!

Sorry if I'm being repetitive here honestly it's very hard to get definitive answers on things like part numbers and names. Why? Because when go and lookup the supposed part number on Ebay or elsewhere for the latest version you also see references to and East & West USA disc. So this leaves me wondering if the 1x43-10e898-bj is for both discs when we're talking about the USA (please I'd like to ignore UK and European eduitions) or ir what? The are many unscrupulous sh*ts on Ebay as well some legitimate ones.

So what do you mean when you refer to Nav-Tech?

Do you mean you went out and bought the physical DVDs, both of them?

I agree on the price. What I have is very old and I will update it but I'm not going to spend $200 for the latest. I can get a pretty good portable unit for that. But I will buy maybe a 1 or 2 year old one for under a third that price.

Sorry if I seem to be venting but this stuff is very hard to nail down except with copius amounts of cash.

And thanks very much for your replys.

Sorry for the confusion!! I also post as tbird6!!. So I would love to help out but after much work and a number of sorta working DL DVD's I never got it working completely. Other threads indicate some people have been successful with a copy. There is also a firmware upgrade that happens only once when the new disc is inserted. This seems to impact the systems ability to read DVD copies.
I tried using the version I downloaded from a torrent and also using the new disc as the source with the same results???

So after the downloaded version didn't work properly you utilized a legit original 2010 version and it's not working properly in your car either?

Here is the NAVTECH site to purchase the new factory DVD disc. The mention of two discs may be a confusion between the older system which is CD based and uses multiple disc's. The DVD system for North America only uses one disc. This what should be in all 2003 and up Jaguars.
