Warspite, I'm wondering a little about your gas mileage. My 2001 was reporting 19mpg on the display. And I didn't exactly drive like Miss Daisy either. But I do spend most of my time driving on the highway, as opposed to in-town, so that might make a difference too.

I'm Going to chalk it up to needing a good 100,000 mile tune up. Plugs, fuel filter and even transmission fluid and filter. Before I got it, the car did overheat a couple of times before water pump and thermostat got replaced. No codes, nor misfire present. Just passed emissions too. No hesitation on throttle. I'm certain that the throttle body has never been sprayed nor the MAF sensor, and snake oil has never been added. This is not a heavy car, so I expect higher MPG. Just wondering if there's some quirk with this year and engine...other than plastic chain guides.

I just took over ownership of my Dad's 2006 S Type 3.0. It sat in a garage for a month without being started, but started right up when I picked it up.

Congrats...I wish I had your Dad! You must have one of those 10 year batteries. Like in my case, at least you know the car and are keeping it the family.

Low mpg is often a sign of poor fuel trims. You can read them using OBD live data. If not close to zero then depending what they are you can go fixing...
