Default No Heat

Hey guys,

I have a 02' S-Type that isn't putting heat into the cabin. I've checked the coolant level, the air is comming out, but at external temp. The ac works great, in all vents. Thoughts?

Is that something that I can poke at on my own?

This happened to my X (don't know if computers are the same)
One of the techs said to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes before I do anything.
When I reconnected the battery everything was working fine.
You might want to try this first before you get into tearing things apart.
Also check your fuses.
Good luck!

Cool, I'll give that a try to see if "resetting" it works. Anyone else have other ideas?

is it a 4.0 S type, mine had a broken control valve which had to be replaced, if you disconnect the battery make sure you have the radio code before you do it.

With the engine at normal operating temp and the heat on high, check the heater feed pipes temperatures versus the return. these are located on the rhs by the exhaust manifold. if they don't get hot, the dual climate control valve is most likely at fault, although i've seen a few climate control heads fail recently. also, try purging air from the coolant system.

Ok, So I've checked the hoses, and the going in are really freakin hot, the comming out are way cooler... I did disconnect my battery for 10 minutes for the reset thingy and that didn't work. So, I'm back to where I don't have heat. If I'm at a stand still, it will blow a little bit warm (temperature reader says about 71 deg.) but I think that's just the heat from the engine compartment because on high and not moving, the heater should force my butt outta the car.

If it is the valve, where do I find this, or does anyone have instructions with pictures (I like pictures) since I don't know my way around the jag, but I know enough about turning wrenches. If it's too deep, I'd probably have my mechanic do it, but now it's getting to close to where I need the heat here in the PNW.

FYI: Radio codes don't exist on my make model car (02' 3.0 S-Type)

Go to "Search". click on "Advance search", type in user name "BRUTAL", scan back through his archives until you find what you need.

I don't work on S Types, he does, and I recall seeing a fair amount of diagnostic advice that he offered on this subject. That should get you cookin'.

Here is a link you can try:

Also, have you tried going to the manual mode and selecting the face vent only? You may want to click the AC to off. When you do this, set the temperature all the way to high. I typically do this in order to warm up my hands and the steering wheel in cold mornings.

Good luck,

Mike
