Lots of people ask about engine swaps, it is more trouble and money than its worth but my first question on this one is why would you want to?

+2 to Police666. The mods I performed thus far have yielded deep into the 400 hp range (est. 460 chp).

Because read nice R with busted engine is available and I can buy a normal 4.2 less than 20K miles real cheap.
It is enough power as far as I am concerned.

I have an offer for more than I paid for the 2001 with locked 4.0 I purchased recently, and can do this with the R for only a couple thousand more.....

R at $3000 4.2 non supercharge at $1200

Only somewhat low mile R engine I find is $5500.

Question is what is involved?

Engine has to be out regardless.

Just swap an R motor back in, save yourself the trouble. The money and time required to go backwards will be astronomical!

+1 on this. I believe a member of ours is looking to sell his S Typr R engine as he just bought a new Volvo to replace his S Type R. Might be a cheap way into the 400hp club.

The swap will be more work and need more unexpected parts than most people believe. Anyone in that category... Go right ahead.

Obviously you'll need PCM, other modules especially any involved in PATS, dash, many sensors and so on.

There is a thread on this forum in (I think) the XK/XKR section where a member upgraded his XK with some of the XKR parts including the blower. IIRC he had to get a piggyback ECU & lower the boost to get the car to work almost correctly. Do a search & enjoy the read. Should be very insightful. The differentces between the AJ-34 & the AJ-34S are pretty substantial and not for the faint of heart. Just my 2 cents.
