It is indeed, that is strange.
The link in your post was doing the same Vector, I've removed them both.

They did for me John, as did going through a Google search, I got a flood of red warning windows from my anti virus.

Anyhow, further sleuthing reveals that:

1.) Apparently the metal pan holds 1 liter less,

and

2.) per an e-mail from Klauss " The oil level must be checked through the overflow plug in the bottom of the oil pan, using the filler plug on the side of the transmission will overfill the transmission by 1 liter and cause the transmission to overheat and burn up."

Could the later be the reason most folks end up using 7 liters instead of 6 for this change?

Ive ordered 3 kits from ctsc, the last order arrived the day after I placed it. Outstanding company to deal with. I've never had to use more than 6 bottles of fluid on each car.

 

Wow $220+ for everything... is this deal still going? Seems amazing.

Does this come with the official ZF fluid, or a cheaper alternative with the same spec?

 

It has the correct ZF fluid. That's why I got my parts from Klaus. He finally got a decent price on the Lifeguard fluid.

Does he have the new anti-noise additive?? It so expensive everywhere else!

Good question! I only have 31K miles now and it seems like a a lot of work and supplies expense just to get rid of a 3rd gear shift chirp.

I shall call him next week.

Yes it is, ZF6HP26 to be exact.

 

Imagine $350 being a deal for a dealer required service... can't do it yourself on the Mercedes 7 speed........ Has to be filled with a special fitting from Mercedes. The ZF might be a pain, but at least there is a way to DIY.....


Actually, you guys and your Jaguars have it made....LOL.... This wife's R350, while a good solid vehicle, is a royal PIA to work on just because there is next to no information out there.....Unless you want to spend thousands for such information... even the forums lack..

They'll give you a parts access for free... But the service part is WAY expensive..... I now have an Alldata subscription for the car and, sorry Rick, it sucks.... but better than nothing I guess......

Edit: I just rechecked the cost... $18.00 for 24hr access, $95 for a week, $275 for a month, or the real bargain... $2950.00 for a year.... Now, pick yourself up off the floor...and get back to flogging newbies....LOL

Yea, little funny thing is Startek and Starscan are also the tool sets for Chryslers still even after the divorce from Daimler. But at least I was able to get a factory manual for the 300 without having to sell a body part...

Nah, not buyers remorse. Just making the comparison since so many people think Jags are a nightmare. In just the US Mercedes probably out number Jags 10 to 1 at least. It just amazes me how little is out there for them. Heck... I'm learning the the R350 is just a low and long ML350. And my comment about the air suspension is a known fault with them. (I feel bad for the folks that are shelling out 45k plus for the 2011 and up Grand Cherokee Overland, it has the same Mercedes Air Suspension).

The wife needs a three row vehicle. With three kids, if any friends come along it fills up the car. None of the other crossovers have a third row worth a crap. She hates the Ford Flex, I like the Lambda body GM stuff, but again she didn't like them. To be honest, the R fits the bill and she loves the darn thing. I love how it is a beast through Ohio weather. My only frustration is how DIY unfriendly it is..... Except for oil changes..... The way they do oil filters is absolutely brilliant.

 

I've rented many fully equipment Ford Edges and last time I decided to try the Flex. It's not terrible but it has a few things I did not like. Gas mileage and a rain sensing wiper system that has a pod on the windshield that is so large on an already much smaller windshield than that of the Edge. Once you add a radar detector your visibility is severely limited. It did have the blind spot sensors which is a good thing because outward visibility is a big issue in that vehicle for me.

I don't trust side mirrors so it's almost 100% of the time that I turn my head both ways when turning or making a lane change.

 

Maybe using 6 L explains why mine was a little over a L low. It was serviced by a shop that is supposed to know though (before I bought it). Anyway it was not leaking. It would work OK when warm but the TC would seem to hunt when cold. I've test driven two others that did this. And it was a bit slow shifting 1-2 and 2-3 when cold. And sometimes it would so some funny things when cold at higher loads/speeds. Adding fluid seems to have corrected this. It still however is a bit slow going back into 1st at a stop. it helped quite a bit but now seems to have gotten worse again. 127k miles.

 

With your history of running the fluid low I would do another change just to make sure it was full and the fluid was in the best condition possible.


It's a good transmission but running on low fluid will hurt any transmission.
