Oil Cooler Lines - RIP
Hey Folks, been a while since I have posted anything all has been fairly quite on the STR front these past few months. Anyway, I have had a few new adventures with the FSTKAT and thought I would share with all of you fellow enthusiasts now that our cars are all approaching or over the 10 year mark things are starting to reach the end of their useful life.
Last summer the air conditioning decided to go haywire work then fail off and on. I had my indy check it out to no avail we replaced the evap temp sensor, and teh DCCV valve but nothing seemed to work. Finally after several weeks of trial and error (and several master mechanics hovering around the car) a junior mechanic at my local Jag dealer was able to figure it out! Broken wire to the DCCV just under the fuse box - Wear and Age...
Recently, I was noticing spots of oil in the garage, never in 11 years of ownership seen a single drop of oil on the floor (I know very shocking for a Jaguar) anyway the drops became puddles which became a pool. Back to the local Jag dealer who I have really come to know and love by the way great guys at my local shop here in Cincinnati! Looks like the high pressure hoses for the engine oil cooler (not transmission lines) are gone, the right side was the worst and was "leaking profusely" while the left side was "only weeping". Parts are on order now, but looks like she will be back to her old self here by Thursday and no more leak!
Just as a reference to anyone who may take the time to read this, I had been smelling an oil burning smell for quite some time and had replaced both valve cover gaskets and spark plug well gaskets thinking they were the culprits, I think it may have been these oil cooler lines all along leaking along the underbelly and burning off on the exhaust. Well, it explains me leak, the smells and my oil consumption so hazaah, shes back again!!
Cheers!!
