Default Oil type?

I can get cheap 15W50 Shell aero oil. I run it in both the merc and BMW, how about in a 4.0 S type?

I personally always run what the manufacturer specifies. The engine is designed with the specified fluid in mind. Now brand and type is topic for debate that is pretty much "banned".... LOL... Kinda like talking Dem or Rep in America these days....

Go with what works for you.. There is nothing all that different or special about the Jaguar V8 vs a Bimmer or Merc....

Agreed. Why take a chance? The demands of an airborne piston engine are very different than a car slogging through traffic. I don't believe that 15W50 is the recommended weight anyways.

LOL! At the present I'm vacationing in Cape Cod at the "Captains Quarters" and just picked up hot tea from the "Captain Sparrow" refreshment lounge.
I use 5W-30 full synthetic every 3 months in my 03 STR.

15W50 isn't always recomended. It's thick and when sold for cars is marketed as 'drag oil'

I know that the 15w50 will work in the car, it's just a question as to how fast it'll consume it. I can get a quart of fully synthetic oil for $8, so depending on the consumption rate it COULD be cheaper for me to follow this route.

Arrrrrrrr, Billy! On the contrary, higher numberrrrrrs mean thicker oil, me hearrrrty. Not sure what 'drag oil' is other than men wearing women's clothing that need to be slicked up nice like. Not that therrre's anything wrrrong with that. Arrrrrrrrr.

It's thicker oil. If your engine doesn't get the lubrication it needs then changing to a thicker oil will be very expensive indeed.
