Opinions on this Jag...

This is the Jag I'm planning on picking up (as soon as my wife says it's ok,
). I wanted to get your opinions on this Jag since you all know more about Jags then me. It's a 2003 S-type 4.2 liter. Here's the listed options: Air Conditioning, Alarm System, Alloy Wheels, AM/FM, Anti-Lock Brakes, Automatic Climate Control, Back Up Sonar, CD, CD Changer, Driver Airbag, Fog Lights, Heated Seats, Keyless Entry, Leather Seats, Passenger Airbag, Power Doors, Power Locks, Power Mirrors, Power Seats, Power Windows, Rear Air, Rear Defroster, Side Airbags, Sun Roof, Tilt Wheel, Traction Control, Woodgrain. It has 98K miles on it and the asking price is $10,500. What I am looking for is a mix of luxury but I also need space (anything has more thanmy 350Z) and it needs to be reliable (want the car to last for probably at least another 5 years-I drive about 12-15K a year in my daily). I have been looking at similar Infiniti's and Lexus's but for the money and the newness of the Jag I like it as an option too. Do you guys think this would be a good option based on my description and the miles on this car for the price? Thanks for any input!

i wud get a history report.. but a s type of that year is a good car.. minor problems.. but a car with that high mileage can be costly $$ .. it's better that it is a v8 .. suspension is pricey.. and so are electrical pieces

Yeah, I used to sell cars so I still have access to Carfax which I will definitely check out. I'm going to go drive it on Friday just to see how it feels. I just wondered what you other owners thought of it lasting for another 60-75K miles (until about 175K miles). I know that people would say thata Lexus would do it but I don't know as much about Jags. The mileage will be almost completely highway and I drive my daily's like an old man,
. Thanks for all opinions!

Personally to me I would find one with lower miles. Are you expecting no problems or anything in particular? Ever think about getting an x-type instead since you get some crappy weather or do you not care about that?

I'm ok with rear wheel drive in the winter. With the right tires you can drive anything and actually I'm better (more used to) handling a rear wheel drive car in the snow. I would prefer one with lower miles too but the prices jump exponentially for them. This one is an 03 so better tranny, engine, everything basically and 01's with about 65-90K miles are between $12k and 16K. My price point is really under $10K if possible. I know that's tough to find a Jag for that price but it's just funny that this Jag is the same price as a Nissan Sentra, etc. I have found a few Lexus IS300's that have a little under 100K miles on them as well for around the $10K mark and they are ok, but obviously the Jag is much more luxurious and actually gets better gas mileage. I have looked at X-types too but they are usually around 65-85K miles and around $12K. But that's pretty much what I wanted to know, would the S-type last for another 60-75k miles. I'm sure there will be maintenance but I was wondering about major things, tranny etc.
I had an S-Type R the other day 2003 with 199000 on it. Came in for its second 100k service. Still runs good. Had to do wheel bearings on front, rear shocks and software updates. Car was nice.
fjt, for about a month now i've had a little squeak noise coming from my front right tire without applying the brakes and now it got louder and sometimes it makes a clunk noise a local mechanic told me it was the bearings i went to the dealership and they said they only sell the hub which is like $430.00 is that the only way to fix it?.thanks

Hi there Fletch, I would pass on a Jag with that many miles. Yes you are getting a great deal, but if the tranny or anything else major goes out, be prepared to drop a couples of G's getting it fixed. So, in the long run it's a crap shoot, are you willing to take that risk?
