Default Opinions on possible paint job

I really like the look of a good two tone paint job. Especially the kind you find on old Rolls'. I had a fellow forum member do a what-if photoshop and he included a couple options. Let me know your thoughts.

Hi Tommy. Can your friend come up with more paint schemes? Frankly, the two tone thingy rubs me wrong and the STR is no 5000 lb. girly-break a nail Rolls Royce. It's a 400 hp eat up the unsuspecting sport sedan. Sorry, Sometimes I get emotional....

My overall plan for the car is to de-tune the look. I am hoping to go to a basic style grill and wheels similar to what is on the photoshop pics. But...

underneath the hood will remain all business STR. Really trying for the ultimate sleeper combination of mild looks and raw performance.

+1 to jagv8. Tommy, leave her alone. In stock trim the STR kinda looks like a sleeper.

Leave the car paint alone and focus on the wheels. Try to add color to them like the flat gray.

Tommy, worldwide there were only 8000 STR's produced with less than 5000 survivors. Too much change will likely cause you to lose focus on her identity. This often will accelerate the once elegant, powerful, and unique machine to the scrap heap.

Is all the paint work still stock? Has there been any accidents or panels repainted?

The factory paint on the STR is actually really, really nice. You would be damaging the resale value of the car going that route,

Spend the money on a set of wheels and some lowering springs and I can't imagine you not being satisfied with the look of your cat at that point!

As GT42R said, a respray of any portion will greatly diminish your car's value. If you want to change the look, I would recommend checking out vinyl wrapping as an alternative. It won't damage the paint if applied and removed correctly and that way when you are done with it you still have the stock paint job underneath.

Your car, your money and your decision. Asking for only 3 opinions is inviting trouble. I did the same with my 58 ford and loved the result.
listening to the opinions this poor car is worthless, although personally I would happily swap mine for it.

I debate Jon all the time, but this time his sentence sums up my opinion as well... The R is a rare beast to begin with... There are other ways to individualize your car without taking it down that route.

It would be like me putting a two tone paint job and "B" badges on my 300... Just because a bunch do it, doesn't make it right.... LOL

Do you really want to lump an R in with this crowd??

Honestly, the S Type, while a bit retro in design is NOT this....

@x.l.r.8: Now a '58 Ford is from the era of two tone, and would probably look good done up as so...

@Quartz made a very good point... Vinyl and Plasti-Dip are two new ways to play with car finishes in a non-permanent fashion. While, I personally don't like either, it is a totally reversible process that retains the integrity of the car.

Jeff, thanks for hitting the nail on the head and providing the disgusting pics of STR's in various malaligned poses. OP, please leave your STR alone. Be different, by allowing her natural form, which in stock form is already unique.

There are very few vehicle that look right with two tone paint............. and the STR is not one of them.

The Front Wing and Front Bumper offer no logical line to follow for the colour break.

Jeff,

I thought I'd seen some ugly S-Types, but that maroon and silver one takes the cake. Where was the photo taken, a junkyard in South Jersey?

I'd have to say I'm against a two-tone paint job.
