Default Oxygen sensor P1426 error

Hello All:

A quick and maybe dumb question. I have a P 1646 error on my 2003 3.0L Jaguar s-type. It notes in the forum chat say the code refers to Bank 1 (upstream). In the chat it notes this is on the firewall side of the engine. I have a shop manual but it refers to the heated O2 sensor as being called the H2OS sensor and shows them located on the top part of the cat converter intake. It only shows 2 sensor though and not the normal upstream/downstream 4. I am assuming from the shop manual I need to replace the one on the passenger side of the car right at the beginning of the cat converter. Is that assumption correct or I am missing something?

Thanks,

J

Bank one is on the right side of the car; being in the US, this is the passenger side. You are correct in your assumption.

Good luck with the replacement and please use OE, or OEM parts, as opposed to no-name, or off-brand parts from the famous auction site.

Sounds like the wrong shop manual (for X-Type maybe) or wrong part of it.

Thanks for the advice. I think the manual is calling the downstream sensor on the back of the catalyst monitor sensors from the diagrams I can see.

Was scratching my head about the title until I noticed something. The title of the thread says P1426, which doesn't exist for the S-Type. In the text of your original post, you said it was P1646, a whole different story. Is P1646 the actual code?

For P1646, details are here:

Of the four sensors, the faulted unit is bank 1 upstream. This will be on the right side of the vehicle when facing forward, on the US passenger's side. Each cat has an upstream and downstream sensor. The upstream sensor is located at the cat inlet, closest to the engine. As previously mentioned, make sure to get a quality brand such as Denso.

Sorry KR, my bad. Pulled up a pic from a buddies car I was helping with. The code is actually a P0037 H02 Heater Control Circuit Low Bank 1 Sensor 2. Shop manual reads, "Concern with RH catalyst monitor sensor." I take it that is the down stream sensor not the upstream sensor?
