Paint specs for a 2005
So my neighbor three doors up in this condo complex forgot to set the parking brake and his car rolled out the short driveway and did a perfect arc to smack the LR corner of my car!
The quarter panel dent came out with PDR very nicely but the rear bumper had to be sprayed.
My car is Jaguar racing green which if you've seen it does some interesting things in the bright sunlight.
So yesterday I'm waiting for them to finish the installation of the bumper cover and we put it out in the light and wham - it doesn't match - too much blue.
The last time something like this happened to me was in the late 1980s.
I was really surprised. I had the front bumper cover replaced a few years ago and that matched perfectly - different shop.
This shop uses water based paint for the base coat so we were wondering if that's the issue?
Did Jaguar use water based color in 2005?

So it's on to round two and see what they produce this time ...
Yesterday they took the bumper cover off again and prepared four test samples which we held up in the sun and we've now got a combo that's good enough.
It's weird, this involved two different brands of paint and one looks reasonably OK if you're looking at it straight on in the bright sun. It's hardly any different than the original but once you view it at say 45 degrees the metal flake diminishes a lot and it looks blue.
