I am looking to order a master cylinder for my car. Part number seems to be XR828105, but I have been wrong before.
Funny thing is, when I look for the master cylinder, a lot of the sites are showing a part that doesn’t match the part on my car.
My mc looks like this:
And I find a part for sale that looks like this:
Then if I enter my vehicle info, and indicate s-type R, it comes back with the next part... same part number.
I’m feeling like I want the part that matches the one on the car. Was there an update to the MC at some point?

Hello Mellow!
Adding the Last 6 to my signature is a great idea. I will get that done. Last 6: M65816
I ended up ordering the part from the UK, and I sent them the last 6 to confirm
it was the correct part. The Guy At Jaguar Classic Parts ( https://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/uk/s-type-parts ) was very helpful. They threw in the o-ring for free too. I know, it’s a $3 part, but anything for free in the Jag world is a bonus lol
Anyway, the VIN is definitely the way to go when ordering parts.
As an update, I began to rebuild the left front caliper this weekend. The dealership wanted to replace the caliper, both rotors and all past to the tune of $2700. Turns out the real problem is the pistons, which are corroding and need replaced.
but this is another thread
Thanks for the advice, will advise on the MC upon arrival from the UK

(I will update my signature ASAP)
The two numbers before the 'M' in your VIN number confirm the model year and what model you have.
For example, my one is '51' that is a 05-model year, 4.2V8 S/C.
If you want to pin the car down a bit closer to a manufacturing date the engine serial numbers give you the date the engine (not the car) was made. It is in the following format:
Year (two digits), month (two digits), date (two digits,) time (four digits).
I am not at all surprised about the great service from Jaguar Heritage Parts, they are very good indeed. You would not get anything like that with Merc or BMW when asking about a 15 year old car.
There is usually a reason that the callipers start to play up that is more than just the rubbers.
Perhaps second hand is the way to go?? Several years ago now I had to replace one calliper on my XJ40 as it was jammed and I ended up getting a second hand replacement.

Not sure about BMW but Merc have been stocking and supplying parts for their older cars for decades. Merc is keen on heritage and keeping their "oldtimers" running and their owners happy is very important to their image. Really easy to get almost anything for any of their cars from most dealers here. Jaguar was very late to the party but seem to be doing a good job.

Thanks for the update.
I will be honest I have not dealt with Merc. dealers for parts for about 25 years now, but when I was in the motor trade they were somewhat less than helpful when it came to supplying parts to us for even some of the newer cars and light vans.
I am glad for the older Merc owners that this attitude has changed.
Jaguar on the other hand went out of their way to be helpful, even with technical info and fault finding!
But that was 25 years ago now when we were working on XJ40's and XJS's.

I wanted to update to say the correct matching master cylinder arrived. I installed it, bled everything and it works great.
In another post about my Brembo calipers I tall about the rest of the brake job.
I have to rebuild the other front caliper at some point, so I will try to take more pics of the job.
