Default Passenger window not working / grinding

The passenger window on my S Type 2000 stopped working. It will some what work going down but there is a grinding noise. It will not work at all going up.

I took off the door panel that and tried to exam the window but there is only a relatively small hole to access the window cable and motor.

I hope my problem is simply that the window cable is detached somewhere but I cant figure out how to examine the system.

Any ideas?

Unfortunately you are gonna need the regulator replaced and transfer the motor from the old one. They call the part a "Rail" in the Jag Parts Book.
It's not a real big job, takes about a half hour.

Cheers,

Tbird6 told me a window regulator from a Lincoln LS would work for the FRONT windows in an S-Type Jag. I bought it from Amazon for $68.00 and got free shipping!! Here's a link for the drivers door. You need the passenger door so make sure to get the right one!

Amazon.com: Dorman 741-876 Lincoln LS Front Driver Side Power Window Regulator with Motor: Automotive

The crunching noise was the white plastic piece that rides in the channel. They get brittle and break over time. When they do the window cable comes out of the pulley and everything stops working.

Scroll down to read the thread I started about my window problems. There was also a post in that thread with pictures that should help.

Thanks EZrider800. That really helps. I have bought a few LS parts and all have worked well. I hope this does too.

I plan to post some pics of my repair. The part was shipped from Amazon today so I should have it soon. From what I read the front window regulators are the same between the LS and S-Type but the rear windows are different so be aware. Also you have to get the correct side as the driver and passenger sides are not interchangable.

Thanks for posting that again Gus. You were the one I was referring too in my post above. Those pictures really helped me get my door panel off in one piece and the regulator out. I hope I have as much luck putting it all back together when my new parts show up!

Were these "white plastic pieces in the channels" replaced with metal parts (or a better overall design) by the 2005 model year? As the S-Type series matured, a number of upgrades were made to fix the original design flaws. I hope that's the case with this plastic window piece. Nothing holding the weight of a car door window should ever be made of plastic. Age, stress, and slamming the doors closed through the years eventually takes its toll on plastic....

As a precaution, our windows are always fully rolled up before we open or close the doors to our S-Type. The more support you can give that glass, the better....

Just take your time. Align the pegs and tap them in, once all are aligned bring them home. If they are not aligned it makes it a little difficult to align properly.

As far as I know the guides are still the same plastic as they ever were. Nice, huh?
