I have a 06 S type R with about 80,000 miles on it and recently i have had a single ping sound come from what seems my driver front suspension whenever i drive over a resonable bump or for exampe going over bridges on the freeway. It doesn't occur while turning or just normal driving; i have to hit a bump or manhole cover or something to hear it. I also have to have my window down as well. It is almost imposible to hear with the window up. I took it to the local Jag dealer and they said that i have a small tear in my lower left a arm bushing as well as it looked that my front struts were leaking at some point but don't have an adverse effect on ride or handling. I'm just not sure what it is, the dealer quoted me 1200 to fix the a arm and 1750 to put in new struts. Any help would be appreciated.

Take a look at the sway bar end links. You can check this easy by unhooking them and then driving over the road where you heard the noise.

Have you been underneath and had a look? My wife’s 2003 Lincoln LS had a similar noise and I found the sway bar end link had broken and the two metal ends would sometimes bang together.

One outside suggestion is the factory lug nuts have a crappy pressed on metal cover. These distort and loosen over time. When you drive over a bumpy road with the window down some people have heard these caps rattling.

Are you still running the factory lug nuts? If you are I suggest swapping them out as better substitutes have been found. The factory ones will get messed up and you might get stranded with a flat tire and a rim you cannot remove!

If you inspect the bushings I think you will find a number of split boots. It's just time and wear. Don't change them unless it bothers you or they start making noise. Since they are not greasable when the boots split dirt and water get in and start wearing the joint out.

Thanks, for the suggestions. I haven't personally looked under the car myself but i will check this weekend. As far as i know i have the original lug nuts, i have noticed when washing my wheels they tend to rattle about but they sound different than the ping i'm hearing while i drive over bumps. The sound is like keys jingling together, but just a single ping
