Default Pipe without connection

Good Day:

I was checking under the bonnet of my 2006 S Type 3.0 yesterday and I noticed a set of three pipes/lines and one of them does not have a hose connected to it. I checked under the bonnet of my 2003 S Type V8 and there is a hose which seems to be connected to the coolant system on that car.

It seems like there should be a hose connected to somewhere. The car runs perfectly and has no troubles at all. I have no idea how long it may have been like this or if it should be like this. Any help out there would be greatly appreciated. I am up to 138K miles on the 2006 and would like to see it make 200K if possible. Thanks!

Does your heater work. That looks like the return line from the heater core. Or maybe some body used a differnt hose and ran it lower. Strange because a person would need to cutoff the supply to the dccv and block off the return hose inlet. Or maybe loop the dccv inlet back to the reurn inlet in order to just remove that hose by itself

Hmmmm....that is interesting....

A few Summers ago the air conditioning was not working and when the air conditioner was turned on it would only blast heat. In fact, even when the system was turned off, hot air would come through. A mechanic "fixed" the air conditioner for me and it was like an ice box but the temperature could not be regulated. It was either freezing cold air or nothing which was great in the Summer. I noticed that when Winter arrived, I had no heat but the air conditioner still worked. Now, this Summer, the air conditioner does not work but at least it does not blow out heat.

Hopefully, that helps explain the past circumstance a bit better.

Yowza, that is one shady mechanic! Of those three lines, the largest is the common return from the heater core. The two smaller lines are the individual supplies for each side of the heater core.

There should be a flex line from there to the Dual Climate Control Valve, which is buried on the US passenger's side of the radiator.

To regain the heater operation, you'll need to see if this alleged mechanic ran a long flex line to bypass the rigid metal line. That in itself should work, but who knows what else he did or if other faults are still present. More details here:

Thanks for the help with this. I had a pretty good idea that it was probably Jury-Rigged when the heat no longer worked once Winter arrived. This definitely seems beyond my capacity to get into at this point but it is very mentally helpful for me to have an idea of what is going on. I guess the mechanic is pretty proficient at "work arounds" while not actually fixing the problem.

Sounds like the dccv control unit failed being stuck open and he bypassed it. You may even have troubles in the climate control module. Big drumroll .............Karl your turn

Yes I agree. Common DCCV failure and instead of fixing it he hacked it.
Note be aware that a bad DCCV can and will take out your RCCM or CCM module if left unrepaired for too long. How long is too long? I don't know but when the DCCV goes bad it's best NOT to delay in replacing it. So part of your problems could be this.

But first get the DCCV replaced and the hoses back into the correct orientation.

Keep posting pictures too as that is always a big help!

Thanks all for the prompt assistance. I will get the DCCV changed first and go from there. I guess I will have to order that and a new hose first. Ughhhh

There is a good writeup on jagrepair.com for replacing that valve

Thanks for that. I also found a great video by someone that posts under "GarageKing". It is really a great step by step video.

I could be off base but I am guessing that this has something to do with the "fix" performed by the mechanic. This hose doesn't look like it belongs there with this connector.

Your first picture showing the 3 tubes?
Take the other 2 hoses off and give the heater core a good flush since your right there. Not reported much but with what we have seen so far I am hoping the coolant types were not mixed which can cause the coolant to jell up. Flush all 3 tubes every which way and watch what comes out.
