I have a problem, a huge problem! My 2001 4.0, which ran fine 2 weeks ago when I parked it in the garage, had problems when I went to start it on Friday. Engine clunked, pinged, missed, and I turned it off after about 3-4 seconds. The car has 98000 miles, I have owned it since it had 76000 miles , I have never done anything with the timing chain tensioners. I am not saying that this is the problem, just FYI. I would like any help you can give. I just got the transmission fixed in this thing now this. Jag dealer wants $300 + to check it out and tell me whats wrong, yes thats the same dealership that wanted $7000 for a transmission. Does anyone know of anyone who works on Jags in southern Indiana? It's very likely that your guess is correct based on the description. My shop is 3 hours east of Indy, and I don't know of any independants between there and here. Get in touch if I can be of assistance.
