Please help whinig noise?!?!?!
So i got my 2005so jaguar s-type 3.0 back from the shop for a leaking trans plug they fixed ok well i got it back well notice a winding/whining noise coming from the shifter part of the consol gets little louder as i speed well i pass by a wall and you can hear outside of the car. Any help on what it could be or is? Is it a cheap fix? Can it be something simple? Its never done the before.

Hi there alot of good resources here and hopefully we can help you with your issue.
Can you give us some more detail on the sound being made. You mention a whining sound that changes with speed. Can you tell is it front or back of teh car left side or right?
What you are describing sounds like you may be in need of a new wheel bearing. When they go out they typically make a whining / whirring sound and they do change with speed and as you mentioned the noise is louder when refected off of a wall or building.
Wheel bearings tend to run about $100 for parts and another $250 to have them installed so if that is indeed your issue you are looking about $350 plus or minus for the repair...

It sounds like if you put a tape in a tape player and theres no music playing but u hear the winding sound best i can discribe it and its not like LOUD in the car but its annoying and if u put your ear up to the shifter part in the middle consol where ( p,r,n,d) is you can hear it while your driving it gets a little louder as you speed. And idk if the guy top the fluid off in the trans or what but i know it was leaking out the drain plug so he socalled fixed it but now its making that noise and idk not really to sure if its coming from the back or front or left ir right side i know i rolled down my window as getting on the freeway and heard the same noise outside. And is it safe to drive it like this? Can thottle cable do this?
But before all this the mechanic had to replace a hose on the e-vap system on top of the gas tank or something cause it would idle smooth them rough for boutta sec and repeat and he cleaned the airflow seansor.
And honestly if these cars have what you would call a sealed trans how could you even put fluid and ect in it?

2005 S-Type should have the ZF 6HP26 you should have a gear shift console with 2,3,4,5 on the left of the shifter.
Honestly, I would get it back to a reputable shop as soon as possible, the ZF transmissions are highly sensitive to low fluid and that could potentially be your issue. The transmission is NOT sealed for life as many would have you believe. There is a plug to fill the fluid in the gearbox and a plug to check the fluid. Neither are easily accessible without raising up the car.
They can also check the wheel bearings while the car is up in the air and eliminate that as a potential option as well.
Either way get it in and have them get the car up on the lift!
