Question from new S-Type owner
Need a little input here...just got a 2005 S-type V8 to replace my 99 Volvo S80 T6. The owners manual said I must use premium but I always used regular (cheapest) gas andnever had a problem. Sooooo, I'm wondering if it will it hurt the engine of my S-type if I feed it 2 tanks of regular gas to every1 tank ofpremium? Thanks
Treasures, i know it may be tempting to use the cheaper gas, but it will affect you long term, i promise. The cheaper gas doesn't have the cleaning agents and other patented additives that will prevent buildup in your injectors and cylinders, and some will even help clean out whats in there. Shell V-power has been the most popular by majority vote around here, as shown by our highly scientific gas mileage experiments. By going cheaper gas, even once in awhile, will ultimately hurt your long term fuel mileage and end up filling up more often, getting less miles per tank, and even hurting performance (which we know you don't want, right?) Then, to fix it, you'll have to possibly get a fuel injection cleaning and dump a bunch of aftermarket engine cleaners to bring it back into the optimum range. In my mind, it isn't worth it dear. Stick with the gucci gas unless you are on fumes and that RaceTrac is the only thing for miles.
Thanks! I did not realize that using regular/cheaper gas would affect gas mileage! Guess I'd better grin and pay
. Besides, $4 per tank full sounds cheaper than an engineroto-rooter job done by a dealer.

Thanks everyone. Just took a 200 mile trip using the "good stuff" (high test) and darned if I didn't get better milage
