Questions
I have just purchased this car, and someone told me that it is supercharged because it has an R emblem on the side as you can see in my pic, but someone else told me that they never had supercharged until 2003. mine is 2001. Also I took to Jag dealer and he said that there is only 2 in North America like this. I am not sure who to believe or what so I am looking for some answers on here. I don't know to much about Jaguars.
2003 is first model year for S Type R.Check your VIN,eighth digit of VIN indicates engine emission system and would be "R" and tenth digit is model year and would be 3 or higher
Open the hood and look at the engine----the supercharger and the charge coolers sit right on top of the engine.
Just looking at your picture the wheels and brakes are not what was fitted to the SType R

I checked it out and was surprised to find out that the normal 2001 S-Type wasn't produced until 2002.5 (a mid-year change) as a supercharged R model. That said it's possible that you have fallen into a late 2001 car that was actually spec'd out with the coming powertrain.
Easy to tell, just check under the hood and sitting in the center of the engine right on top is a Supercharger with two large air ducts labeled with the word 'Supercharger' on top of each one.
More likely that a previous owner dressed it up a bit....but look at the attached picture and then look at yours.

I'm a little confused about this ^^^^^^^^.
2001 was a 2001.... It was in 2002 that they rolled out the major refresh. Even though the exterior of the car did not really change, Jaguar (and Ford to the LS) made major changes to the car. Jaguar updated the drive train moving to the 4.2 V8 and a ZF trans. They also updated the dash and console to accommodate Jaguar specific HVAC and Audio. But more importantly they heavily modified the suspension and uni-body construction to improve the ride and fit of the car. While the Lincoln didn't get some of the mechanical upgrades, it's "bones" were updated as well.
Now where 2002.5 comes in is since it was an early change in production when it was released in Europe and the UK it was designated as a 2002.5.
Here in North America the updated car is tagged a 2003. Any 2002's in North America are still the "old style".
The R came out with the update.. so, the first R's in Europe are 2002.5's and 2003 in the US.
Now over the years I have seen production numbers that list R's all the way back to 2000. I think the total number for that year was 1 or 2. Given the niche maker that Jaguar can be, it is totally possible that the supercharged 4.0 sneaked it's way into a handful of cars. But again, those ghost numbers were for cars made for the UK / Europe, not North America. Normally, the STR is exclusively a 4.2 supercharged car, and that motor first appeared in the 2002.5 update as well as in the 2003 XK8. It did not appear in the XJ8 until the new 2004 body.
eh... I would hate to rain on your parade, but I think $8k for an 01 S-type is way, way too much...
I'm curious also as to why the OP seems to be selling the car (?)
I think the 1 or 2 very early STRs were pre-production, maybe more like prototypes. Only sold here I believe and I suspect were jag-employee/test cars for a while before being sold used. Someone did post about one (I think in the UK forum) and it had a weird mix of electronic modules (and as I recall, no CAN bus), which fits with it being a sort of prototype. I'm not sure whether it was a 4.0 or 4.2 or whether the owner even knew!

Not my add, was the woman I got it from. she is an old lady around late 60's and sucked me in...lol (I guess I should have done my homework).
