Default Radiator fan makes squealing noise

Got a strange noise today when shutting off the car, the radiator fan was squealing when i turn the car off until the fan stops then I do not hear it anymore. I cannot tell if its happening while the engine is running, but I do not hear it when starting the car nor driving it, just when shutting it off. Any ideas?

Assuming an Type, of some year and model, with either a V6 or V8 engine, maybe even a Supercharger.

The radiator fan is electric, soooo, it is driven with an electric motor. These motors are technically a "sealed" unit, and are lubricated for life, whatever that "life" is.

My X300 has had that, and I simply drilled a 1/32" hole in the motor casing at the central point of the motor shaft, and dribbled some oil into the workings. I then sealed that hole with some RTV. Stopped the noise, and that was 5 years ago.

When and if the S Types start that same sensation, the same "fix" will be done.

Letting it carry on squealing means something is dry and will fail, and cost you $.

Are you sure it was the fan motor and not the serpentine belt squealing

yeah serpentine belt is fairly new about 6 months old. And I can tell because its synced with the fan blades spinning.

OK, car info imbedded in the head.

Sadly, you can spray to your hearts desire, to no avail. These motors are sealed from water and rubbish, so logic states that WD40 or similar has NO chance of getting in.

On the rear face of the motor, dead centre, will be a "bulge" of sorts. This is the end of the motor shaft, so a small drill hole through that "bulge" will access the end of the shaft and the bearing contained. A spray of lube should sort it.

Bear in mind that the other end of that shaft, directly behind the fan blade, also has a bearing, but I have never tried to access that one, due to the spray at the rear has always shut them up.

It may be possible to dismantle the fan motor and lubricate the bearings. I've done this on a few cars (usually to heater blowers and window winder motors) and it can be successful. Of course, it may not be possible on the S-type - I've never tried yet.
