Radio Re-install
Need a little help! The 2000 S-Type I recently acquired had a modified radio installed; however, it came with the original radio in the trunk. Today, I removed that nightmare of a wiring mess and reinstalled the original radio. In the process of testing it I found that the radio will go off and on with or without the key. Yes when I put the key in and start the car the radio comes on as normal, with the key off and out of the car I can push the on/off/volume and it turns on? Is this normal? I was careful in the R&R process to make sure all wires are in the right place, what did I miss?
Kosta,
I think they do that on those years for a certain period of time after a door is opened, or after the ignition is turned off. Sort of like GM's retained accessory power. Bascially opening a door wakes up the accessory system. Does the radio turn off when you turn off the key, and back on with the ignition assuming you don't touch the buttons?

Gus,
I don't know much about eletrical wiring, but what might be your problem is that whoever wired the after mkt radio in there may have ran a in-line fuse straight to the battery or fuse box. This would cause the radio to keep power regardless of whether the key was in the ignition or not.
You probably checked this already but thought I would mention it.
