Rapid Beeps / Click from J-Gate
Hello,
Yesterday when I turned off the ignition I heard rapid fire beeps like you hear if you turn off the ignition while the in Drive position or if there is an issue with the emergency parking brake.
Also, when i open the driver door, sit and close it, i hear the same beeps which last for 5-7 seconds.
I also noticed a Click from the J-Gate when the brakes are pressed while in P. Normally i would hear the click from the outside.
No code or warning messages on the Dash. Thank you

I saw your question already shortly after you posted, but hoped, that someone, who would have a better answer than me would answer you...
But as there is still no other reply...:
You symptoms would suggest that the switch, which gives positive feedback to the system that the gear lever is in position P is defective or the wiring to it or the connector to it (I am not absolutely sure, that there is a switch like that, but I simply assume that there is.
But This would also mean, that your system does not know, that you are in "P", and consequently it should not be possible to start the car... - unless the system thibnks that nit is in position "N".
And if it does not start in P, it should start in N...

So this was years ago, so please forgive me if my memory is not too well, but I believe I had the same issue happen to me before like 10 years ago with my S-type. What happened was the two bolts referenced in this thread below were coming loose. That fixed my issue. Hopefully it is the same thing you are experiencing.

The issue disappeared. Incidentally, I had the driver's door open as i was checking for parking lines while the engine was running. I switched off the ignition and there was no beeping afterwards.
Something must be bonkers.
