ready for my first jag.
before i take the plunge, have decided I want the s type 2005 jag, but just wanted to know if you have any recommendations on the 3.0, or bigger motor. i drive quite a bit but don't mind spending more for gas if it is a lot better motor as far as maintenance and performance. the one i am looking at is a 3.0 with 85,000 miles. they are asking $10,500. it is a beautiful car. what do you think?
You may want to look in the FAQ on buying tips. We have the 3.0 and it moves along very nicely. I would say it's just as good as any other larger sedan with a V6....certainly not a slug. The R with the supercharger takes you into a genuine performance car. Expect to pay thousands more for an R. Laurie is thrilled with her 3.0. She was more into the looks, features and finish of the interior than going fast. It's your call on what you want.
I'd say that price is not out of line. I'd bet you can have it for 10 even. NADA top Retail is 13,500 with no options. But they tend to be a bit on the high side.

Warranty, Warranty, Warranty! Did I mention you should get a warranty? Mine is through Ford (they have been great so far). The car can be a nightmare in the pocketbook if something goes wrong (trust me - mine is in the shop right now). If you want to know what I mean - take a look at this thread about my car.

My wife has had her 3.0 since December 2008. Acquired with 18,000 miles on the odometer and seven months of factory warranty remaining at that time. I rode that warranty like a racehorse until the day before it expired. The car will turn 60,000 miles next month. Still happy with the car. These S-Types have a number of known issues that you'll need to address if they have not already been resolved. Read the FAQ section carefully and you'll learn more than you want to know about those issues. If you're a D-I-Y type of guy, these cars can be fairly painless to own and maintain. If you're not, they can be costly in the long run. Read the FAQs thoroughly before you go forward with your decision....
