Default Rear shock questions

Just had a couple questions... I brought my car to Jaguar because I have a extended warranty, my shocks were not covered. They want 953 for the shocks with install. I want to know if I just replace the bushings will that work instead of replacing the whole entire shock? What do you guys think?

Rear shock part cost are 230/pair shipped. This includes new bushing. Mine were leaking at close to 100k miles and were replaced. I recommend DIY.

thanks for the info, but do you think replacing just the bushings would work? because I have the bushings separate in my closet that I purchased a year ago but never used them.

You should describe why you need to replace rear shocks or bushing.

With new rear shocks, body control significantly improved and ride improved marginally. The old shocks were weeping fluid - they maintained surface wetness and the leaked oil did not reach the bottom bushing.

reason for replacement is because of noises found in the suspension, and Jaguar Diagnosed the shocks as the reason for the noises. I have also read online and watched videos on youtube about replacing the bushing would save you a whole lot of money instead of replacing the entire shock.

CATS shocks or regular?

If you have to replace CATS shocks - they are expensive and are a dealer only part - rather easy to DIY - if the bushing is the only issue - then best to change out the bushing.

I recently replaced the shock bushings on my car along with other things on the suspension. If you are not experiencing leakage or shock failure I say replace the bushings.

Gus' web link has very detailed process to DIY the shock bushing replacement. If your shocks are not leaking and you already have the bushings, it would be good to go head and follow his guide to replace them.

R&R of the bushing can be done with the shock on or off the car. I recently had tools made to press the bushings but they are being tested and I am not sure one side is going to work as planned. If the shock is good replace the bushing.
