Default Rear Stud Removal 2003 STR

Does the hub/halfshaft need to be pulled away to remove the rear wheel studs?

I forgot to mention it's a 2003 S-Type R. Found some stripped studs. Ordered Dorman 610-484 studs to replace.

Got them out. Now the problem is getting the new ones in! On the few that were already replaced, someone had simply ground a flat spot into the head of the stud. I would prefer not to do this!

I ground a spot on the knuckle at about the 11 o clock position to slip them in one by one and pulled them in with an open end lug nut and impact them up tight

knock a stud loose then turn the hub slowly and you will see the spot where it almost comes out. Grind the spot out. It looks like a a casting tab to use for holding the knuckle for machineing

I was able to get a new stud in without doing any grinding. Unfortunately, tightening a nut to seat the stud resulted in stripping both the stud and the nut. It looks like I'll have to look into removing the shaft, so I can bang the studs in.

I was able to get 5 good studs in. I ground a little of the stud head flat. They went straight in 12 o'clock. I froze the studs and heated the flange and used grease and an impact. They went in okay.
Thank you for your responses.
