Default Rebuilding my S type R rear Calipers

OK, bougth 28 and 30mm seal kits from Z_________racing.

Have them apart cleaning and preparing to re-assemble, however I need a 30mm replacement piston.

Took them apart with air, you could probably do this without air by removing the dust boots 1st and CAREFULLY prying the pistons out. but I had air, and put a pair of old pads inbetween the pistons and popped them out most of the way, and finished with hand tools to pry them out.
Once the dust boot is gone, they do wiggle out by hand ok.

Attached is a photo of one really bad piston.
The other photo is the pressure seal still in the caliper, which is twice as 'tall' as the ones supplied with the kit.
They are not nicked, so I am considering leaving them be.

Anybody suggest what to use to clean up and remove brake fluid when I am all done, have been sloshing it all over the parts and caliper, will want to clean up when I am done.

Pete

Simple Green has always worked well for me when I didn't want something corrosive. How many miles are on your car? That worries me being that nicked.

Default 80K miles

My car has 80k on it.
This is a north eastern car, so salt will contribute to things.
one other was VERY slightly nicked, but none of the others.

The motive brake bleeder recommends denatured alcohol as a cleaning solvant for brake fluid

Default Ok, all back together and tested

Well I finished up my rear brakes today.
Re installed everything, and bled the system with a helper and got nice solid stream of fluid. May check again in the spring if any air works its way through.
Parking brakes are all back on, and working properly.
Wheels and tires put on and I drove around to 'seat' the pads and clean off the plating of the rotors.
All good now.
The 'learning' areas for me were:
The Parking brake caliper pins on this north eastern care were VERY hard to remove, there is no way I would have got them out - on the car.
The rear caliper pistons are 28mm, and 30mm thanks to Zenkenhauser racing I got part I needed in 2 days.
Not fun working in the cold, but nice to be unrushed when the parts are inside and warm as you clean and replace the pistons/seals and boots.
I was surprised how tight/seized the bleed screws were, got them open, but was very concerned when I 1st tired to open them.
Regards
PEte

Judging by the corroded condition of your pistons the car spent time in a winter salted and humid environment. I'd also say that the fluid wasn't bleed frequently enough.

It'll be nice to have perfect and solid calipers again.

Does anyone have the piston size on the front Brembos? I want to rebuild one of the front calipers but cannot find the piston sizes. It appears that the Stop Tech pistons can be used.
