Hi, I have an S Type 2003 3L V6 with a ZF 6 speed automatic gearbox. We are having a problem getting to the top bolts to remove the gearbox. My boyfriend can reach the bolts, but does not think he can replace them again, as access is so limited. Can anyone help with advice as the workshop manual doesn't give us sufficient information. Also if we have to go to a garage how many hours will they charge for labour. I really love my car and she needs lots of TLC. I have only had her for 6 months, but really want to keep her. I have already bought a gearbox.

 

If you remove the gearbox mount it will drop enough to provide access to the bell housing bolts. The TILT should be enough to get a long extension and 'flex' socket for removal AND replacement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Bob, I just wanted to thank you for your help. We have decided not to do this job at home and will be sending it to a dealer next week. My other half is so full of aches and pains caused from endless motor bike accidents, he would really battle do do it up on axle stands.
So fingers crossed that the mechanics do a good job. Best wishes Lesley
