since a year ago, this is what happens when I try to start the engine.



1 when it happens, I usually wait about 10~15 minutes and try again, than the engine starts fine. as if there was no problem at all.

2 for last 1 year, it happened about 20 times.

3 it never happens when I am leaving home. it only happens after I drive the car for a while (30 minutes to 1 hour) and turn off the engine and park (park 5 minutes to 5 hours) and try to start again.

4 I brought this to the Jaguar mechanic and got the key ignition switch replaced. but it did not help to solve the problem.

does anyone has similar problem or any idea what is wrong?

The transmission shift lever should not move out of park with the key removed, like on all cars. Find out what's broken there to start with.

 

What engine?

 

Follow Mikey's advice. Your shifter has a problem and it's not lined up right so the car won't turn over.

Have you broken anything to allow the shifter to move without the key in the ignition?

If you force the shifter there are plastic parts that are guaranteed to break.

Try to start it with the shifter in N. Any change?
