Default Replace FOB battery without reprogramming?

The FOB Battery is getting weak. Does it have to be reprogrammed after the new battery is in?

Nope. I just replaced mine. Mine wouldn't unlock or lock the car at first via the button, so I manually unlocked the doors and started the car with it and then it worked fine afterwards.

You may also want to have on hand some rubbing alcohol and a few Q-tips. Jon89 has a write up floating around here on how to keep the electronic parts of the FOB's.

For some reason or another the electronics get pretty gunked up, there have been more than of a few ocassions referenced here.

Sorry I know I'm new here but as an elec tech I have to say that it is probably the micro switch under the button. If all else works that is the next logical reason

Don't kill me I know cars aren't logical

Yep, those microswitches tend to fail over time and use. I had to replace two of them in my S-Type fob last summer. But before you go replacing your microswitch, check the condition of the rubber keypad insert at the unlock button. The rubber nub that activates the microswitch could be excessively worn down....

Thanks for the diagnosis. I may have jumped the gun but got fed up and went to ebay. I ordered a new FOB for $89 and change from remotes, inc. They sent me a list of locksmiths in the area that can program it. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

Called a locksmith from the list Remotes, inc supplied. Total to program the remote and cut the key: $90.

I've posted in another thread that I have a very similar problem, if not the very same one.

Can you tell me how to replace the microswitch, and where to buy the part?

Thank you,

Keith

I apologize for my haste....my question was already answered in my original thread. I had read the reply, clicked on a link to this thread, but not yet clicked the link to the part.

Thanks anyway.
