Default Replaced front brakes, now noises...

I replaced my brakes a few weeks ago. Rotors and brakes were done, and now when I go into reverse I hear a loud growling sound until I press the brake all the way. After driving for about a minute or so the brakes feel fine. Its more of just when I first press the brakes reversing from my driveway. I have ceramic pads AND NON SLOTTED ROTORS. thanks guys.

My first best guess, whilst consuming my first coffee of the day.

You are getting a slight "atmospheric moisture rust film" on the rotors and/or the pads. The first application, in either direction, removes this film, and "sometimes" a scraping noise is heard.

Since it has been OK for a while, nothing sinister is happening, in MY opinion.

My X300 sometimes does it, and I run "Semi-metallic" pads on that all round.

Just for giggles, reverse the beast in next time, and observe if the same initial noise is there in a forward motion.

2002 - S Type - No EPB

daboss085 - received your email the other day - busy at work - anyway - I wouldn't be concerned as Giant Francis nailed it.

yes it does do it either way, reverse and in drive, only for the first couple stops and then its fine. Its pretty annoying and very loud. Any way of fixing this??

Could be the quality of the brake pads and material - what brand of pads were installed? Also, are you sure they installed ceramic pads?

Also, were the rotors machined or installed new?

The rotors are brand new in box from advanced autoparts. Wearever is the brand. And the pads are also brand new in box ceramic pads from rockauto.com.
The rears were not done, but am not sure if that would affect anything.... thanks guys...

Take it apart and double check your work. Maybe the spring clips at the top of the pads are bent and scratching the rotor or maybe you forgot to install them.

Do a few hard brakes at 70-0 mph and see if the noise changes once the pads have cooled down.
