Replacing tape cassette drawer with satnav in 2000 jaguar s type
Spoiler
1. The cassette drawer has no auto action so i have to manually pull it out. I would like to replace this with the sat nav module, i have purchased the headend and am just negotiating on the dvd drive for the boot.
Does anyone know if the wiring harness is in place or has to be retrofitted. If so does anyone know how this is done.
2. The Door locks are playing up and not locking unless i manually lock the passenger door. Could this be an actuator problem.
3. The DSC light is showing i think i have narrowed this down to an abs speed sensor.
If there are any enthusiasts in the Derby region of the UK can u help????
I would appreciate any assistance i can get with these issues as i love this vehicle and want to keep her in tip top condition.
i have seen vehicles of the same age that has the satnav system in can you tell me what the back end module is that i need for updating the system etc
Hi Ben. Easy fix . . . but you might not like the sums.
Option 1 - Complete new audio module; new wiring loom for electrics lacking in your car; complete duplex comms network lacking in your car; new head unit incorporating SatNav; new DVD player for maps disk etc etc . . . then, with all the hardware transferred into your car, tow your now "non starter" Jaguar to the dealers to have it all programmed.
Option 2 - Purchase and fit an after-market non Jaguar system. Solutions here range from simple add-ons like TomTom, Garvin etc to fully custom head unit replacements. Research carefully because some members have pioneered lots of work in getting such custom systems to work.
Option 3 - Trade car on the later model that has the features you want.
Ben, please don't feel I am trying to be flippant nor [JagV8] being dismissive. You would do well to fully research the Wiring Diagrams for both your MY and the later . . . with special reference to the ECMs and comms your car lacks.
Maybe not the news you WANT but short of a bottomless budget, this is not a cost effective upgrade . . . indeed, it is NOT an upgrade at all . . . it falls into the realm of a complete re-manufacture.
Cheers,

Ken

Cheers Ken.
I was suspecting as much. It's such a pity as this is one of the few features this vehicle does not have.
Tbh i am an old school maps man but the addition of a satnav would of been nice for the specs of the car.
I do not like the face lift models as i do not think the console layout is as nice looking as the previous one.
I will have to look for a replacement drawer i am sure i have seen a few various options for this space
Thanks again Ken
Option 1 isn't viable as the PCM is not suitable. If you were to change it you'd need a new cluster, gearbox (w/ TCM) and so on. Cheaper to sell car and buy a newer one.
There used to be a CD-based nav but it was not updated for abut the last 15 years.
