Rough Idle, Miss at Cruise
I'm going to tally up the score just so others with a similar issue can ascertain exactly where I'm at with this car.
Had a miss last year, had a floating P030# code. I foolishly changed one cop at a time. By the time I'd changed all 8, with new plugs. Problem solved.
The problem came back recently, abruptly, no codes (my scanner gives status of each IM, no P1000/P1111). As the car had 94K on the clock, I dug in and did obvious repairs associated with age/milage:
Cam cover gaskets (some oil present)
Intake manifold gasket looking for that famous vacuum fitting under the manifold. Attention V8 owners, your motor doesn't have it (it needed to be said, I said it)
Changed all COP connectors.
Changed all injector connectors.
8 new COPs and plugs
4 new O2 sensors
Verified TC tensioners were metal.
Verified Cats not restricted (measured pressure)
Unplugged IASV; fast idle, still missed. Road tested, no improvement. Replugged, normal idle, still missing.
Code reader showed a P0066, cleared it, did not return
Diagnosed (very) rough chatter at cruise. Torque converter look-up issue. The car did this last year and the issue went away after replacing COPS and plugs. Whether it will go away this time...?
Had the Jag dealer plug it in. Pulled a P1000. They suggested changing both Cats. Hey, why not.
I stood back and assessed my situation. On top of everything else I need 4 new tires, and as I didn't know to disconnect the battery before I unplugged the front shocks (new lower bushings) I fried the adaptive Suspension Mod.
Although I wish I could see this through, I need a car, not another job. And so I traded the ol' girl in on a Chevrolet Volt. So for me... issue resolved.
I wish to thank all those that offered their help and to all on this forum, as I've enjoyed (for the most part) this car and this wonderful resource. I wish you all the best with your cars. Me? I'm going to see if I can get the Volt's 'Stale Fuel' light to go on.
Cheers all,
Billy from Philly

Help! I have an S type R. My car just came out of repair. They removed the supercharger and changed every belt, hose, the throttle body, the engine upper and lower gaskets, new ? plastic piece that runs from the throttle body to the supercharger had melted (he cut and replaced the center with a metal piece so that I would not melt again), not sure what else. It started rough for a few days. The mechanic says tune up (just had one 5K ago when I purchased the car from a HORRIBLE dealer in Stuart, Florida. My mechanic also suggested the EGR valve and quoted $700 to replace it. I do not have the $700 at this time. I suggested that it may be related to all the work they did. This morning not only rough start but the engine was ROCKING. It was awful and scarey. Gave it a lot of gas to warm up the engine and it settled down. Runs great once warmed up. Do you have any idea what this might be? Thank you for your help.

Rough idle at start could be caused by a vacuum leak from a cracked or split hose.
Is the MIL on and what are the code(s) stored?

Good Morning NB Cat. All belts and hoses were replaced by the mechanic when he took the supercharger off to install the throttle body and the tube going into the supercharger. It is weird as it is getting much worse in the morning on idle. I think he did something wrong but he is not owning up to it and making suggestions for a tune up and EGR valve. I am waiting for a code to show up. There is none! He also replaced a C2P 11143 relay in the box last week. Perhaps it is a bad relay? I pulled out the paperwork and this is what he did. A long list! 2 duct seals, elbow seal, throttle body housing and gasket, 2 inlet manifold gasket, seal washer, 2 outlet pipe gasket, housing seal to motor, coolant return hose, line from AC water pump to the engine, seal on the temp sensor, hose to thermostat housing, thermostat, coolant feed hose, feed hose, thermostat seal. PERHAPS ONE OF THESE HAS AN AIR LEAK? if so, why would the rough idle leave when the car warms up?
Sometimes a very small vacuum leak when the engine is cold can cause such a condition.
Rather than go for a 'tune-up' and other guesses, your Technician should look for a vacuum leak after the vehicle has cold-soaked overnight. A very small leak can be found by performing a smoke test.

Hello again NBCat. With all he took off and replaced, that would not surprise me. I just wish the computer would throw a code. I am not used to playing 'hard' but I guess I will just have to in the morning. The car was running great until the repair work was done. Thank you for your help. I greatly appreciate it. I will mention this to him in the morning. Thanks! Steph
