Default Rough shifting into 2nd

Hello all!
My name is Andy and I just bought a 2003 Jaguar S-type R.
She has 170k miles but I believe she has been taken care of well and I want to nip any problems in the bud so the car will last me a couple of years.
When starting out it seems as if the shift from 1st to 2nd is a bit rough. I'm not a car expert by any stretch of the imagination.
Does anyone have any advice for what I should do to find out if this seemingly rough shift is an issue?

Hi Andy,
You need to introduce yourself first in the new members area and then you will get some response in this section.
The introduction is a forum requirement.
Have a look round and get to know where everything is.

With so little to go on, maybe get an OBD tool and look closely at sensors you can grasp then fuel trims.

Otherwise seek an expert (an independent probably).

BTW there is a distinct chance the gearbox needs a fluid change - it should have had it done twice by now but may well not have had any change at all.

DTCs read/recorded first. Fluid/filter change next. CLEAR ADAPTATIONS and/or software 'reflash' as a possible next step??

I used to have an XJ with what sounds like the very same problem. After researching, short of sending it to a specialist and taking out the mortgage to pay them with. I ended up changing the auto gearbox fluid and filter. There are links on the internet and this forum that tell you how to do this. I certainly made the gear changes in all gears smoother. It cost a fraction of the price of a specialist doing it, by DIY.
