Default S-Type 2.7 diesel help

Hello all

I am new to the forum so please bear with.

I have just acquired a 2005 S-Type 2.7 diesel 6 speed car from a friend and which has been off the road (field) for 2 years due to starting and running problems. Friends would be mechanic had indicated it is CMS (camshaft sensors) issues to him, and that its (one unit) positioned to the rear of the engine.
I have viewed posts on the forum and found SJARAUDS post of "How to's" (many thanks) and checked the electrical 200 page pdf in which has diagrams on page 36 & 37 of sensors and actuators numbered but not described, later on it lists sensors CMS1 & 2 being 2 wire connectors same with CKS Crank etc.

Do i thus assume (obvious really) that there are 2 sensors positioned to the front of the engine, one on each bank and they are analogue (2 wire) variants for testing with multimeter?

Just looking to start from basics first etc. I assume DPF and EGR should not cause starting issues but just poor running at this stage.

Thanks Paul

Hi Graham

Will do the intro bit.

Think I have answered my own question as have looked further into the 2005 Electrical guide.

It appears there are two types of cam sensor for that year:-
Fig. 2.3 states 2x CMP's, one for each front bank.
Fig. 3.7 states 1x CMP on front right bank and clearly a 3 wire digital variant.
Looks like i'll have to look and check what I have got.

Thanks

Thanks for feedback, much appreciated.

I have gained sensor test information for either analogue/digital sensors (2/3 wire) and will check when next with car.
FYI, very useful link for basic intro to crank/cam sensor testing:-

Part 8 -Crank and Cam Sensor Diagnostic Basics

I have read the intro and added signature with location and car spec.

Again thanks for replies and believe this thread now closed. Will check forum for OBD tools and post new thread if info not found

Thx
Paul
