Gents, hi!

Just registered and already I have a question. I have a cute S-Type 2007 in near mint condition, less than 20k miles, so-called Portfolio package (for European market), love the car and take good care of it.

I was away and did not drive Jag for 2 months, came back, battery is absolutely drained. I was thinking I need a battery change, but the voltmeter showed I'd rather need to fix the alternator. Now, since the car will not start now, I can either load it onto special transport and deliver to the very other edge of the city, or have the works done closer to me home. Question is: how difficult is it to take off the alternator? I have a friendly VAG-service nearby and would trust them with getting it done, but I can not find online any specifics about the removal process (a YouTube video would be best, but no sign of it so far) and am unsure whether this is a standard procedure or there are some delicate issues that should only be handled by my Jaguar-service team?

You can perform a search of this forum as this subject has been covered previously. In addition, JTIS is available for download from the 'sticky' section of this forum, or the Workshop Manual may be purchased from an online vendor.

To avoid future issues with the vehicle, it may be best to have the work performed by a facility with the knowledge and equipment to service Jaguar vehicles as they are quite different from those produced by VAG. If you have the ability and facility to work on the vehicle yourself, replacement of the alternator is not difficult.
