Default S-Type 4.2L V8 Upgradeable?

What would it take to get an OEM Supercharger from a type r on my ride? If I can't what other avenues can I pursue for engine upgrades without lowering the value of the car?

If you want a supercharged S-Type, then your best bet is to trade up for an STR. There are internal differences between the supercharged engine and the normally aspirated engine that preclude just bolting on a supercharger. If you want to keep your current S-Type, then most likely an ECU upgrade is your best option.

I second doing an ECU upgrade. I would love one for my car as it would get rid of the 121 mph speed limiter. A Jag's top end should not be restricted by factory settings.

Well put! In stock trim the S-Type's n/a 4.2 has 11:1 compression, pumps out 310 hp and 300 lb/ft trq. A performance reprogrammed ECU, high flow cats, x-pipe, resonator delete, Magnaflow mufflers, K&N air filter (stock flat panel type in stock air box), and low temp thermostat (?) should yield an additional 50 hp and 25 lb/ft trq. That's 360 hp and 325 lb trq! I'm sure more than I listed can be performed on this sleeper.

We have a performance chip for $125 plus shipping. It's a plug and play install. They are new to us. We just put on a shop car. Definitely more pep.

My problem with the STR is it looks like a race car, I don't want that look... it also doesn't have some of the luxuries mine has.

What specifically do these chips do to allow the engine to produce more HP? What are the trade offs?
(actual real world data please, not marketing hype.)

STR with premium pkg looks just like the regular S. Chrome and all. Also, all STR's have or were available with the same equipment as the base car.

Here is a 2007..

Now about your upgrades... I would talk with Ken.. He has been on here for a while. I'm sure he'll give you an honest answer as to what the chip will do..

Hey Tim and Ken, I am in relatively the same boat, no pun intended. I acquired a 2006 s-type 4.w VDP in such immaculate low km condition and at such a good price I couldn't pass it up. Some have said it's 310 hp but I am thinking it is closer to 300. All that said it's pushing 170 hp/tonne. I am hoping to get that to 190-210/tonne hoping it will have the same thrust as the cars I was looking at before I found the Jag: g37 197, genesis 193, wrx sti 197, 370z 218.

Search for apples and that will take you to a thread that discusses how it's easier to build a car than to put a sc in your jag.

so the goal Is to hit the 350 mark. Hoping to do that through reprogramming, intake upgrade, exhaust upgrade, filters, plugs. Mind you, none of it is guaranteed to work. If you put premium parts into an already premium car, you may just be replicating performance that was already there. Is this the case here? Or is there space to improve? That is the question. Tim, you and I should work on this through some cooperative effort.

Cheers
John

I'm gonna take it to a local shop that deals with this stuff, I'm sure they can come up with something for it.

Type R doesn't look like a luxury car it looks like it's a race car. no fogs, different grill, different wheels, different back. I want to keep this look but still have that type of power.

First thing is dyno it so you know where you started.

I really can't see you getting to anything like 350hp but good luck.

Just to throw some gasoline on the fire, Arden has a couple options for the V8. One is an ECU and exhaust upgrade and according to their website increases hp by about 20. If you go this route, you may see a further increase by getting some high flow cats. Their other option is a complete engine that has been increased to 4.5 liters and puts out around 380 hp. This will be fairly pricey though, I'm guessing more than 10K. Arden is a German tuner company that does some rather nice high end work with a price tag to match.

Reference the STR's racer looks, I saw a rather nice one the other day. It was a 2005-2008 model and had a VDP interior with burl walnut wood.

Taken from Ardens pricelist 2007, 4.5 ltr engine upgrade $36.000, or $450 per HP...

350hp might indeed be tough to get, I would gues more in the 320/330 or something, and these will not be cheap 30 hp.

Why not go for NOS then (if an STR is not an option)?
