Default S-Type - Central locking - locks, but won't unlock

G'day folks,

Recently bought my 2002 4.2 S-Type and I have a problem with both keys.

I can lock the car but can't unlock the car with button on the key. Any suggestions?

The battery's have both been checked on the keys and they are fine. Is there a sensor that picks up the signal for the "unlock" command, or does it sound like a mechanism problem?

Don't really know where to start with this one...

The "key" locking works fine ie I can unlock it with the actual key, just not electronically.

Thanks in advance,
John

I recently had a problem with both the unlock and lock buttons stopped working on a remote. New battery didn't fix it. I took it apart and cleaned the switches with electronic contact cleaner. I also bent up the battery contacts on the circuit board and the metal contact next to the battery. So far the remote is working again for the last couple of weeks. I did find some new micro buttons for the circuit board on Ebay and will probably replace them if it acts up again. You may need to clean the switches a couple of times to get them to work. Make sure you use the proper cleaner. You should be able to buy it at an auto parts store.

That fixed it. The little microswitch was filthy - same on both keys. Patient, gentle cleaning with electrical spray and it works a treat. Thanks mate

Glad to hear it worked for you. I had to clean my remote twice to fix it. I got some new micro switches in the mail in case it acts up again.

Yes I am amazed that you can even get the micro switches so it must be a wide spread problem!

I doubt that jaguar would sell the switches.
