Default S-Type door Issue

Hi Every1,

I have recently been bequeathed a Blue Jaguar S-type 2000 4.0L V8. I had it in at the mechanics to have it looked over and to diagnose the issue's i am having with the doors.

I have been told 3 out of the 4 actuators are shot and need replacing, also with the passenger door it does not open at all and to fix the door there is a high chance the door trim may need to be replaced as well.
The cost I was quoted at fixing the door problem without replacing the trim on the passenger door was min $2200

And having to replace the rear view mirror at a cost $650

I do need some advice on what is the best way of acquiring these parts independantly and then possible getting the job done at a fraction of the cost or wether I take the punt and sell it at a reduced price

There's more than one type of mirror but should be reasonable on ebay / a wrecker. I've a feeling they're "awkward" to swap due to the mounting but read up on here.

You could get the locks yourself and have anyone fit them but I just do not believe so many are all faulty.

You could DIY all or any of the things if you've time and inclination, cost nothing but the parts.

I don't know about buying used lock parts - they'll be available but maybe worn.

Not looking for second hand parts, the rear view mirror is one the has clear and tinted, i can only assume this changes depending on light, couldn't tell you though, it is stuck 3/4 around on the tinted side.

The car had some issues with the doors when I 1st started driving the car and has gotten worse. (passenger does not open at all now) It was rarely driven for 12 months due to my father's illness.

I will check e-bay and follow up my mechanic for the appropriate part number for the actuators for the doors, unless some1 has them on hand

thank

Mark, good advice from JagV8.

The front actuators are not as bad to get to as the rear. I have a write that shows you the rear being replaced. The trim does not have to be replaced or for the matter does not get removed. Here in the states the actuators are around $300.00 ea.

Definetly go the ebay route from a mirror. Here is a write up for replacement as well.

Now mind you that the write ups are from a 2005 MY, but they should be very similiar.

You failed to mention are you a DIY type of guy?

Thanks for the advice and the door actuator fix it link, unfortunatly i am not a huge diy sort of guy but would give it a go if I was more mechanically minded.
A mate of mine could also give me a hand, but he has not re built or fixed a Jag before.
I will keep my options open at the moment a see what happens

Thanks
