Default S type engine oil specification

My Jag is up for an engine oil change and I was thining is there some specification that I should look for. The engine runs with Castrol Edge 5w30 but I have no idea if there is some other spec I shoud look for. A friend of mine said that the engine oil for the S type V6 should also meet the Acea A5/B5 standart. Is this true?

May depend on the year but regardless it's in the handbook and that's a free download from jag's TOPIx (as this site's Stickies says) if you haven't got one.

As requested several times, please add details of your car to your signature.

The car is a 2006 V6. I got the owners manual but it says nothing more than "Jaguar recommends Catstrol etc. etc, use 5w30". But nothing more about the certain specs of the oil. That is why I am wondering what oil to use. BTW how do I add a forum signature? Tanks

Best go look again. The spec is given right after the 'Jag recommends Castrol' and before the viscosity range.

Upper left hand corner of any site page. Click "User CP", look for "edit signature". Type in info, click save. Bobs your Uncle.

After a bit of looking I found this at my owners manual- "WSS M2C913 – A or B is preferred" for oil engine use. Does that mean that I should look for oil that is Acea A5/B5 spec only?

I suppose it means you should look for oil that meets WSS M2C913 A or B does the Acea spec match that?
What oil do you plan to use?

Up until now I have always used Castrol Magnatec 5w30- it is what my local Jaguar dealer sells and the engine runs absolutely fine. I was just wondering if there is a certain oil spec. that is good to look for. I do like my Jag and just want to make sure that the engine will keep singing a lot more miles.

As people keep saying: it's in the handbook. Doesn't matter what brand providing it meets the spec.

From the Owner's Handbook for the 2007 S-Type:

The oil specification (WSS M2C913-B), alternative specification (ACEA A1/B1 or ACEA A3/B3) and recommended viscosity (5W-30) are all detailed there.

Your forum Signature with vehicle details will appear automatically with your next post.

After working for and around performance tuners/builders/aftermarket manufacturers, I believe there's not a better commonly available oil than Mobile One synthetic, regardless of an auto manufacturer's marketing tie-in recommendation, so that is what I use.

Except that Mobil 1 (not Mobile 1) 5W30 does not meet the primary spec of WSS M2C913 A or B.

So what? Mobil One 5W-30 meets/exceeds Ford WSS-M2C946-A
and Ford WSS-M2C929-A.
Boom indeed.

The relevance being what (bearing in mind those specs do not apply to our S-Types)?

What is expected duration of ownership? If less than 3 months, feel free to use any lube up to and including cooking oil. If less than 2 years, then any oil of correct viscosity will do, if less than 5 years any synthetic oil of correct viscosity will do. If 10+ then use the damn spec oil as specified in the manual.

I'm part way through ownership year 9. Have used Jag spec oil, which is not costly and is readily available. I can't see any point in trying to out-guess Jaguar engineers, whose engine it is (though Ford owned Jaguar at the time, the engine is a Jaguar one not a Ford one).

Of course any owner can put in their own car whatever they like, or even leave it out...

Which is exactly what I do and recommend to others.

Ironically, the oil that best meets the Jag spec is non-synthetic.
