Default S Type Gearbox fault and parking brake.

Hi everyone. New to the forum so hopefully following correct procedures. Went to collect an S Type 2.7d 2005 model on Tuesday from a back street dealer. Car had not been prepared, battery was dead so jump lead started. Parking brake locked on and gearbox fault message displayed on Dash Board. I cancelled the purchase. I now have the opportunity to buy another S Type 2.7d displaying the same faults and message. Could any one tell me if these are expensive faults to repair? Many thanks, Phil

Hello Phil, classic dead battery symptoms!! Many many threads about this subject. Battery replacement on this side of the pond run about $180.00 US.

Hi Joyce. Thanks for info. In your experience are the problems solved automatically when you fit a new battery?

It's Rick, Phil.

Yes, new AND charged battery corrects problems immediately. You will have to reset EPB, very simple.

Others experience with faults, happy reading:

Be wary if the car has a DPF (as most of the 2.7d cars do) as they are prone to some very serious issues.

BTW it's brave to buy a diesel in today's car situation in the UK! You must be doing huge miles to make it viable.
