Hi I have managed to crack the j gate cover, how do I remove the cover to replace ?
is it a straight forward unclip or do I have to dismantle all of it (it’s just the top cover)
Any info appreciated thanks How to remove just the top cover

I think your in luck but you "might" be better off just buying a complete used shifter? Have you looked on Ebay yet? Maybe find a deal on a cheap one?
You did not list your car or any details and that is a must if you want help?
Here is the assembly from our beloved JPART and it looks like all the S-Types used the same part.
Jaguar does list item 5 (The face plate) separately with part number JLM21309 thru VIN M45254. I do see one new one on Ebay at around $85.
BUT Jaguar Land Rover Classic parts has it a good bit cheaper? About $40 plus shipping from the UK. J-Gate Shifter Plate

Hi sorry I didn’t mention what Jaguar it’s on, it’s a 2002/3 s type 3.0 also I’m in the uk,
looking at the diagram it looks like it comes apart ( No5 ) do you know how it comes off ? Is it held on with screws from the underside or just prize it off
regards

He's got the 2003+ model with the 6 speed transmission. On the bezel, D=6, with 3, 4, and 5 on the left.
Earlier models have the 5 speed transmission. On the bezel, D=5, with 2, 3, and 4 on the left. The early models also have a separate sport mode switch (S) aft of the bezel.
Sorry I was wrong as they all use the same one THRU VIN M45254. Thanks much Karl!
I don't see it as available separately anymore for the 6 speed versions after VIN M45254?
Workshop manual, JTIS, has the R&R all covered in the Sticky. Worth reading before starting as even getting the gear knob off can be a pain unless you understand the simple method involved.
Also, and this will help . . . . widen your search for parts by knowing that same J-Gate for ZF 6HP26 in your later series S-Type was also adopted in all XJ, XK8 and XKR of the same era (not earlier or later).

Yes Keith, definitely 2003 Jaguar 6speed 6HP26 gear selector (your VIN well past the M45255 transition). Advise searching skybay for an entire unit to fix the broken 2nd spot on the face-plate, any other damaged parts. Not sure, maybe just your photo, but possible damaged D > 5 disk also. While it may be difficult to find a seller of just the face-plate, entire J-Gates do not usually pull big money privately and benefit is you can mix and match to combine a perfect assembly . . .
I haven't done a full 'How to . . . ' write-up on the 6speed, but search the forums here using 6HP26 to capture others using same unit. This thread for 5speed for X308 Jag, while not interchangeable with yours, does show the same steps and processes I have used if you need to rebuild your J-Gate selector . . .
If that be so mate, yell if you need further help. All we ask in return, is a photo of your repaired Cat basking in your glorious British Summer sunshine!

Seem a rather tall order! Is he expected to keep his car parked and camera at the ready, in hopes of capturing the fleeting moment of sunshine? What if he’s driving when it happens, and there’s nowhere safe to pull over?
Living in western Oregon myself, I know the challenges he will face:
