S Type LSD? Lincoln LS Install
Fixed that for you
Yes the QDF3W is the one for the STR, as well as the X350 XJ's and early X150 XK's.
From what Tom told me, if you have an early model the modification to the housing is only necessary if your diff has been replaced with a new unit, which had a redesign at some stage.

I picked up my Mark VIII carrier assembly today. It is fitted with a Torsen T-2R 31 spline differential and 3:55 gears. (Remember, I've swapped out my trans. with a 6 speed, so I wont have the STR/Trans ratio problem)
Attached is an image of the Unit. When I finish welding new carrier mounts on the Donor sub-frame, I'll post more images.
Also, Has anyone come across replacement subframe rear differential bushings? Perhaps made out of Polyurethane?

OK I just picked up the XJR from my mechanic...the Quaife is in!
So, QDF3W from TL Jaguar tom(at)tljaguar.co.uk was £695, another £195 for the bearing and seal kit, £80 delivery from UK to Switzerland. Those are export prices without tax. I'm waiting for the bill to come from customs...

This is what Tom sent me.

This is what the stock open center looks like inside the housing.

Here the stock center next to the Quaife. Outer dimensions the same.

Here the Quaife installed in the housing. Fits in like the original center, no grinding, no modification, it just slipped in like the original unit.

Bolting the finished diff back in. No problem!
So how does it drive? Well as it turns out we had a big dump of snow last night, and this afternoon it's warmed up enough for a steady drizzle of rain. It's wet. The car is back on the 20" summer tyres. And it's very, very driveable in these slippery conditions. I haven't had much of a go with it yet, but my mechanic had a long road test & said "it's awesome man" so I think we are on a winner.
As it turns out, it was a very good idea to go for the bearing & seal kit. The pinion bearing was pretty badly scored and would probably have started making a lot of noise fairly soon. Only 153'000kms / 93'000mi on them...
Looking at the pic with the Quaife installed in the Jag housing, there is so much space in there i'm really wondering what the problem is to fit an 8.8" clutch LSD in...grind what exactly????

Interesting look at the interior of our stock pumpkin... sounds like an awesome upgrade, although price is about the cost of my OS GIKEN setup in my other car, and that's a far superior clutch based diff... still, glad there is an option out there for us, and that you're the first I've seen post details up on here of the quaife, appreciated, price isn't too, too bad I suppose...
I was looking at the picture of the Quaife installation and one thing stands out. There is only one bearing clamp on the Left side! I assume that the second bearing housing is pressed into the carrier housing. Makes me wonder how strong the housing is in that area.
Yup, noticed that too,
I'm guessing the bearing's outer race/cone is pressed into the housing, the bearing itself is pressed onto that end of the differential, then you load the assembled diff in with that bearing end first, and drop the cap side in next, bolt down the cap, and done,
agreed, not very robust looking... but a bit simpler too...

Thanks for mentioning this:
Product
This looks more suited to racing though.
What's the longevity of the clutch in this unit compared with the Quaife's design?
Some on here are probably more interested in that level of tuning whereas I just want to add a decent LSD to the car. Hoping to hear some feedback from his Ring experience. That's a serious track.
Any further thoughts?

I'm confused I thought in your most recent post you said it DID NOT require any grinding?
Are we talking about the same diff or does yours have a different style case?

Have had the quaife before, and although its a great diff, I much preffer a good clutch type one, and drive now the OS Giken TCD version. Its a fantastic diff, and I doubt I have ever replace the clutches due to its design and number of plates. Its a diff just as well for street and will do great for track.
They don't list any Jag but I guess a call might answer that?
