Default S-Type R in 2000?

I was looking for magazine articles on the STR and ran across a few on eBay. A lot of them are UK magazines, but some are 2000 and 2001 year magazines. I thought the STR came out in 2003? What's the deal? Did the STR come out in 2001 in the UK?

Here are some examples:

The info I got from Jag shows 80 STR's produced in 01 for the 02 model year.
Most are in the UK and a very rare car.
The 08 cars are very hard to find. I look for them time to time and have never seen one.

The STR was on general sale - here - in what jag call 2002.5MY but their MYs seem all over the place to me. It was likely end 2001 or some such and there were some number of pre-production cars (one was on ebay recently). I'd expect that early on jag made at least one that didn't even LOOK like an STR and had it on the roads a lot (heck, what would you do in their place?). Maybe had the original body shape but with the STR engine and who knows what suspension etc. And then maybe its long term was written up.

If I can't drive it to the office, I'd at least want a model of it on my shelf.
