Default S-Type R Brake Vibrations

Hi, my brother recently picked up an '03 S-Type R with new pads but the same rotors. I was driving it yesterday and I was braking from around 50 mph and the brakes started vibrating violently and the wheel shook like a wheel was coming off the hub. It also occured from slower speeds when the brakes were pushed hard. High speed braking was nearly impossible due to the wheel almost coming out of my hands. I read a TSB on here that was very helpful (TSB 20610) and I'm hoping it will ensure that the brakes on his car will be replaced so it doesn't shake violently under braking anymore.

Any insight on those who have had the same problem with their S-Type R?

Do you have Select Edition warrenty? Wheel bearings are covered. I have the same car and I just get a little vibration when I brake but I do have a bad wheel bearing. Let us know what you find out!

Are you guys sure? The steering wheel only vibrates violently when braking. There's also a very slight vibration of the steering wheel when just driving in a straight line on a smooth road with no braking.

You may have bad rotors, tires or tires need to be balanced.

1st, check tire pressure, and make sure none of the rim weights fell off.
2nd, rotate tires to verify that it's not the tires...front to rear....rear to front...
3rd, inspect rotors for cracks, and possibly out of round condition...(will need a gauge)

Finally, inspect the brake pads to ensure they have seated correctly.

Good luck

The fornt and rear tires on my 03 str are different sizes so you really can't rotate. I did read service letter to Jaguar techs that also says that the suspension can be the cause of vibration during braking and reccomends that if new rotors and pads don't work check the suspension. I too had a slight vibration of the stearing wheel when driving strait but when they fixed the squeaking in the rack it went away. Your problem sounds a lot worse then anything I've experienced.
Good luck.

forgot to mention, make sure wheel lugnuts are on tight and that the rim is mounted correctly on hub.

These cars also go through a lot of ball joints. Have them check the front end entirely. Better safe than sorry. Remember, you don't have to go, but you do have to stop!
