Default Car vibrates under load >60mph

Hi,

I recently bought the lovely car.

By vibration I mean the whole car, drive-train like shaking under acceleration.
The first mecanic said I should change the left inner cv joint, the second one told me to change the right side drive axle, and the third mechanic told me to straighten the FRONT rims, which were pretty beaten up.

So I balanced the wheels and the vibration diminished ALOT, but sadly it's still there when accelerating from 50-70 mph. Now that's 60% off. You can imagine how bad it first was.
I felt the right inner cv joint a bit wiggly, much more than the left inner cv joint. Do you think I should go on with changing them both?
Or first balance the rear wheels as much as possible?

Thanks

B

There will be some good advice coming.
I think many recommend checking a bearing support on the driveshaft.

I would rotate the tires/rims, see if the vibration changes.
Possible the rim could not be balance perfect, as in never will be balanced.

Not heard of a CV causing a vibration, just noise. But wait for more replies, I guess if bad enough it could vibrate.

It vibrates when the car is hot, or after driving a while.
Maybe the driveshafts don't vibrate when cold?

I did that an hour ago, change the wheels, right back with right front, the vibration is still there and no major change, maybe a bit heavier.

Been asking around, some mechanic said "wheel bearing" but I don't feel any play in the wheels when moving them by hand.

Found used driveshafts for $150 each, what should I do?

Thanks!

I read your intro, do you have an S-Type or X-Type?
You should add your car info into you signature to help us help you.
If you do have the S-Type, post the ? in the S-Type forum.
If an X-Type, I would wait for a few more responses.

I have a very bad rear wheel bearing right now, no vibrations, just noise.

It's the X-type with 100k miles on the clock. I hope I made the good choice

I changed the tires to the winter rims and tires, and now the vibration still there, but less powerful.

No clunks when turning in circles, and the vibration is felt in the gas pedal..

Although I'm hearing some clunks at regular potholes from the right front wheel, any ideas what to look for?

I think I'm experiencing the same vibrations. I've done everything possible and haven't found a solution, I was holding off on the drive shaft but just bought a used one to give it a shot. I'll let you know if it makes a difference.

Hey,

I did just that! Changed only the right driveshaft, and now the vibration is GONE!

FROM NOW ON change the right driveshaft when vibrating under load!

It's a rule on these pretty little cats!

Thank you everybody!

I am having same vibration issue , when you said that you changed the right driveshaft are you talking about the driveshaft that from trans to diff? Or are you talking about a cv shaft that from diff to wheel on the right side?
