Default S-Type R Engine Cover

So I have this engine cover that seems in my opinion

1) useless
2) creates an environment for more heatsoak

Does anybody have an opinion on driving with the engine cover off? I though its mostly there for aesthetics, but I was wondering if anybody had some real time data that proved that the cover did nothing for the performance of the vehicle and/or driving without it had no negative effects.

Thanks!

It's probably useful if you live somewhere cold or like a quiet car.

Get rid of it holds heat and it cooks the rubber hoses!

I've never seen any data indicating it does any harm- just some speculation.
