Default S-type R engine cover

Do you leave your engine cover on or take it off?
Three out of the four pins are broken on mine, so gravity is holding it on.

I have wondered if the cover holds in a little bit of heat in, since it is covering both aluminum intercoolers.

mines off . i don't like on .looks crap , holds heat it's been off over 6 years with no ill effect .
The pro's for leaving it on is a lower bonnet/hood paint temp,
It will hold some noise in also,
and sure reduces water ingress .
so eye of the beholder i guess .

When I got mine 2 years ago the guy had attached a peice of soft rubber / plastic to the back , something to do with water pouring down onto something causing problems . I've never really investigated it as I've been dealing with other things on the car . Maybe someone can shed light ,he did say it was a common issue. The plastic covers the back of the engine and tucks under the scuttle panels . I only mention this as there maybe a detrimental effect of leaving the cover off . It would be good to understand why the previous owner did it

There's an issue with water from the scuttle (say when raining) ending up on the throttle body & the TPS plug, leading to safe mode & the accelerator not working. The answer was to fit a 'hat' to divert water away, along with sealing the TPS plug with silicon, etc.

This is all very interesting. Thank you for bringing up the water issue. When it comes to that and heat affecting the paint, it sounds like the cover should stay on and I should locate new rubber grommets.
